This week, I was lucky enough to have my photo on the cover, as well as a full page feature in the Uniter, which is the University of Winnipeg's student paper. I met with Dunja, the lovely reporter for breakfast one morning and chit chatted about me! We walked around a lot, since the weather was so nice! One of my favorite places was the Highline park, which is where the first two photos were taken. The last photo was taken in central park. This guy was making gigantic bubbles, and they were beautiful.

I feel like I'm settling into my new job, and it's wonderful!

I'm part of a drawing collective called Places for Peanuts, and this year we are taking part in a local craft sale! We'll be selling collaborative drawings, zines, coloring books and other fun, handmade things!

I'm also starting to get ready for a solo art show, opening in January at the Edge Gallery.

Our drawing collective Places for Peanuts held a super fun drawing party and art show at the Edge Gallery last Saturday for Nuit Blanche! It was really fun! We had a drawing pictionary-esque tournament where you entered teams of four, who then faced-off against other cleverly named teams. Ted and I made super fun decorations.

Today, the two talented ladies of Oh So Lovely unveiled their beautiful trailer, Olive!!!!!!!
It's amazing!!! Scalloped orangey-coral on the outside, turquoise wonderousness on the inside. It blew my socks off. Perfect in every way... even down to the snacks, which were delicious.

Everyone starts with a paper.
Everyone draws the same feature. for example, everyone draws a nose.
Everyone passes their papers.
Evereyone draws the eyes.
Pass your paper.
Everyone draws the mouth.
Pass your paper.
Etc.

You can mix it up, draw animal parts, accessories. Be creative!

This weekend, I shot my very first wedding. It was a beautiful wedding, full of love and happiness.

This is my newest project!
The idea is not new, it's been steeping in sketchbooks and drawings, but the color palette comes from a plaid, worn in shirt that I found a couple of months ago.
These are the first tests. The fabric is a light, pink-coral cotton. It's summer and sweet and soft.
I'm using light blue-violet acrylic paint and hand cut cardstock stencils.
Silk screening is the next step, but a crash course is needed.

I don't know much about this blog, Four For the Day, but I enjoy it thoroughly. I think, if I am not mistaken, that it's run by a fellow Winnipeg artist, S. Arden Hill. One of my photographs was included in a summer themed show at Freud's Bathhouse & Diner, in which he also had work. It was a show filled from floor to ceiling with work of all kinds.

Tuesdays are the one day of the week that are booked solid. Class, work and then off to our weekly get together for our drawing collective, Places For Peanuts. I've mentioned it before, but if you want further information, click here! This week, I got the chance to describe one of my own my drawings (see above), while the the other Peanuts interpreted my words into their own drawings. I said something vague, like, " A tree whose trunk is a naked lady, with circles for leaves. There are two faces on either side, and their hair fills the rest of the frame."

So, the blog is up for my new project, Places For Peanuts! The end goal for this project is to eventually put together a zine, made up of drawings from our collective of talented artists. We get together once a week at a local watering hole to chit chat, inspire, spread news and most importantly, play drawing games.

I was considering taking some courses in May, but after this winter, I've decided to enjoy the summer's as best I can, outside and at the lake. We're planning a trip to Montreal and Ottawa in early May, instead of going to school.

in the top left corner, you can get a glimpse of a quilt i started for a gift. I'm not very precise when i work, so I think it's safe to say this was one of the most challenging projects I've undertaken. Also, it's the reason why it's hanging unfinished...

Also, I got an iphone, and it has such a nifty camera on it! This is one of the first photos I've taken with it's new hipstimatic app! Fun!

I've always wanted to put together a zine.

With the help of my ridiculously talented friends, it's an idea in the making. It was an open call on my facebook, for people who were interested in starting a super-fun-doodle-type drawing zine. A collection of fun, you might say. Our planning session last Tuesday quickly turned into beverages and drawing games.

Here is a very small sample of the fruits of our love laboring.

In this case, one person starts with a drawing of anything. The next person describes it with a few words. The next person draws what they've read, and so on and so forth. Text/image/text/image. Like telephone.

ALSO! important note, you can only see whatever the person before you drew/wrote. Which is why I posted all the ovens. Even though we had no idea what the others had drawn, we used almost the same perspective and cropping! greats minds friends... great minds!

Over the holidays, i spent a few hours with family, sifting through an overflowing wooden crate full of dusty photos. Decades packed into envelopes recorded in black and white photographs with fancy edges and smiling people i never got the pleasure of meeting.
As a tiny girl, I remember hearing stories about my grand mere. Her name was Jeanne D'Arc, but went by, "Joan". Since I was named after her, you can imagine my excitement when I found these three photos of her as a young woman.

This summer I was really interested in the natural world. The way plants spring forth from the mud and decay, reaching up. I did a lot of sketching in my back yard and in the park where I was working, making art with kids.
